History of Hoskote

Hoskote, also called Hosakote or Ooscata, is a city in Bengaluru North District, India. It has five hoblis: Kasaba, Anugondanahalli, Jadigenahalli, Nandagudi, and Sulibele. There are 294 villages. Hoskote is also famous for Dum Biryani.

Hoskote grew early because of good land and water. It was good for farming and animals. Old trade routes made it busy for traders. Grains and cloth moved through Hoskote. Today, it is easy to reach from Bangalore by the Old Madras Road.

Hoskote is known for the Battle of Ooscata. It happened on 22–23 August 1768. It was part of the First British–Mysore War. British East India Company engaged in the war with Kingdom of Mysore.

Hoskote demonstrated his military worth in this battle. Armies moved through here. It helped shape the region.

Hoskote was under the reign of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan after Marathas. Farming was assisted by new roads and water. The British later took over. They transformed taxes, streets and market places. Hoskote is now a short trip from Bangalore.

Records show this was a turning point. Modern government and better systems began.

After India became free, Hoskote stayed a farming town for years. As Bengaluru grew, Hoskote changed. New roads and factories made it busier. Industries and homes came up because it is close to Bengaluru.

Hosakote Lake has many birds. Birdwatchers come here often. You can see coots, glossy ibis, spot-billed ducks, pelicans, sandpipers, cormorants, brahminy kites, and marsh harriers.
